Hive Architectural are the foremost providers of curtain walling in Cheshire. We offer our UK clients and contractors a wide range of innovative solutions for curtain walling, faςades and specialist applications.
Curtain walling is often applied to high rise buildings such as office blocks, but it is also suitable for low rise domestic buildings.
Many commercial premises opt for curtain walling as a way to modernise their image and allow more interface between external and internal environments by introducing the element of natural light.
Installing curtain walling is not the same as installing cladding. While both are applied to the façade of a building and are sometimes referred to as ‘cladding systems’, traditional cladding adds to the weight of the structure, while curtain walls are self-supporting.
Curtain walling is not load bearing. It supports its own weight and does not carry the weight of any other structural element. This makes it safer than cladding, as it is more structurally sound.
Aluminium curtain walling is lightweight and offers excellent insulation properties, making it thermally efficient. It is one of our more expensive options.
Aluminium’s strength, durability and lightweight properties makes it one of the most popular and widely used forms of curtain walling systems. It is adaptable to any building type.
The aluminium frame is typically made from extruded aluminium profiles attached using screws or rivets, or welded together. Panels of glass, metal, stone or another lightweight material are then inserted to fill the frame.
We can powder coat aluminium curtain walls in any colour from the RAL chart.
Steel is another popular curtain wall frame material, being highly sturdy and more aesthetically pleasing than aluminium. It can be finished in silver or black oxide coating, giving it a rugged industrial look suited to many companies.
Glass is the most common choice of panel in-fill for a curtain walling system because it allows natural light into the interior and offers fantastic views to the outside world.
At Hive Architectural, glass is available in a range of structural glazing to suit your requirements:
Besides glass, panels of other materials, such as stone, brick, terracotta, stone or wood veneer can be used to create the final appearance.
Hive Architectural offers a range of product types when it comes to curtain walling. Whether you have a low to medium, or high rise facade; a shop front, show room or private house, our designers have extensive experience and can provide a tailored solution.
One of the two main types of curtain walling, stick curtain walls are perhaps the most basic system, consisting of steel or aluminium frames connected by a series of fill panels.
Stick systems are assembled piece by piece on-site, and the glazing panels are inserted from either the inside or outside.
Stick system panels can be removed if needed, making them ideal for buildings that need frequent ventilation, such as hotels, restaurants, and retail stores.
The most common type of curtain wall system, unitised curtain walls are built using prefabricated units that and delivered to sites in sections to be assembled in record time.
As well as fast installation, unitised curtain walls allow for large areas of glazing to be used without compromising on structural strength and are often used for multi storey commercial projects, such as offices, hotels, and retail outlets .
Glazed curtain walls use glass panels within metal frames to allow sunlight into the building interior.
This design not only provides attractive views, but also reduces the need for electric lighting.
The structural glazing can be designed to have varying degrees of transparency depending on the levels of privacy and sunlight that the building requires.
We have installed glazed curtain wall systems into architecture as exterior walls, interior walls and even ceilings.
All products supplied by Hive Architectural comply with UK Building Regulations (2015) to BS6262 and BS592 standards.
At Hive Architectural, we aim to create real personalities for landmark projects. Our polyester powder coating facility can match all BS or RAL colours, and anodised finishes can manipulate light throughout the day.
We can offer optimal thermal efficiency with impressive U-values of 0.56 W/m²K .
Security of all windows and doors within our curtain walling is guaranteed. The lightweight material that we use is robust and our curtain walling design is fabricated to suit the practical needs of our clients.
Curtain walling installation at Hive Architectural is carried out by our team of highly skilled technicians. We work quickly and efficiently on brickwork repairs and window replacements, causing minimal disruption to your business or home life.
We can either install your chosen glass panels onto a pre-existing structure using machinery, or we can apply them to the structure before it has been built, using adhesive sealant tape to secure everything until it has been set correctly.
The type of material that you choose for your curtain wall will determine how much work needs to be done onsite.
Extruded glass panels must be cut to size before they can be installed, and cleaned with an acid solution to remove residue. Tempered or laminated glass panels come pre-cut and can be installed straight away.
Hive Architectural offers competitive costs that are based on your individual requirements.
